Feel like dropping us a note and telling us how great we're doing?  Or maybe that we have no idea what the heck we're doing and should shut down the whole thing?   Perhaps just a suggestion or two?

TFR Ticker: The Mockingjay Takes A Lackluster Weekend

Chris Scalzo

"Klaatu, verata, nikto..."

Where the hell were we last week?  At a wedding in Connecticut, not that it’s any of your damn business.  So, big weekend, huh?  There was only one new wide release last week, the horror film ‘The Pyramid’.  I assume it’s about some folks running around a pyramid getting stalked by something scary.   Or at least I hope it’s scary.  That 8% Rotten Tomatoes score certainly doesn’t instill me with confidence.  “The Pyramid’ came in at 9th place with a sarcastically robust $1.35 million.

What else?  ‘The Hunger Games Part 3: Mockingjay Part 1’ made $21.6 million and won the weekend.  Go Katniss!  Show the haters what for!  ‘Penguins Of Madagascar’ maintained its 2nd place finish in its second week of release with a haul of $11.1 million.  Synergy!   ‘Horrible Bosses 2’ coming in 3rd place with $8.6 million featured Justin Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis going after their jerk bosses again!  Those rapscallions!  Still, the film rose two slots, but that’s probably more a sign of the poor options than an endorsement of the film.

"Say 'What' again.  I dare you..."

Disney’s latest, ‘Big Hero 6’ kept on trucking with a 4th place finish and $8,130,000.   Speaking of space trucking, ‘Interstellar’ delivered $8 million in space credits.  Oddly, ‘Interstellar’ still hasn’t made back it’s budget of $165 million if you look at just the domestic receipts.  Don’t worry though; it pulled in $434.4 million overseas.  So all is okay in the Nolan-verse.

Next!  Dumb And Dumber To placed 6th in this dead heat of horrible $4.169 million.  It’s weird watching Jeff Daniels in this, then switching to ‘The Newsroom’.  7th place featured the Stephen Hawking biopic, ‘The Theory Of Everything’.  The film showed it’s first drop in attendance since its release, bringing in $2.7 million.

‘Gone Girl’ is still hanging around with second week in a row in 8th place.  This past weekend it pulled in an estimated $1.5 million.  ‘Gone Girl’ is director David Fincher’s best performing film yet, beating ‘The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button’ by roughly $35 million as of this past weekend.

Rounding out the top 10 is TFR favorite ‘Birdman’.  Slipping one place from last week, but finally surpassing its budget of $18 million with a weekend haul of $1.15 million.

Interesting stuff coming up: ‘Foxcatcher’ with $575,000 from 75 theaters and ‘The Imitation Game’ with $402,000 from 8 theaters and ‘Wild’ with $630,000 from 21 theaters.
