TFR Ep. 409: MI: Fallout, How It Ends, Great Debate: Franchises
Chris Scalzo
This week on The First Run, Matt and Chris discuss the latest in the Mission:Impossible franchise, ‘Fallout’. Tom Cruise returns with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie, along with the M:I regulars Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames in the franchise’s first true sequel. Picking up 2 years after the events of ‘Rogue Nation’, Cruise and his crew botch a nuclear materials sting, which brings in involvement by the CIA, specifically arm-reloading fighter Walker, portrayed by Henry Cavill. Are the critics right and ‘Fallout’ reinvents the action genre? Or do we know long for John Woo’s take on the series? Next is the Netflix original, ‘How It Ends’, starring Theo James and Forest Whitaker as uneasy father/son-in-law team desperate to get to their wife/daughter as…something… happens? Has the streaming company delivered a winner or just continuing to focusing on slinging that ‘tent? There’s the always reliable rundown of the big releases on Blu-ray & DVD, featuring the Streaming and Straight to DVD Picks of the Week. Finally, Chris and Matt discuss the state of the franchise, and which minimum 5 film series is the best. So enjoy the latest show while halo jumping. It’ll be fun.
